COMPANY HISTORY:

B&I Contractors is one of the largest mechanical and electrical contractors in South Florida.  The company was founded in 1960 by Gordon "Buck" Harbuck who was married to Ira hence the name "B&I" Contractors.  The company currently performs commercial HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical work throughout the State of Florida. 

Gordon Harbuck owned and operated the company from 1960 until his retirement in 1990.  He was succeeded by Hugh Clark who was president from 1990 until 1995 and during that time the company transitioned to an employee owned company (ESOP). 

Gary Griffin was appointed as President in 1996 and under his direction and leadership the company has tripled its sales and employees in the last ten years.  B&I Contractors has been a strong supporter of the Southwest Florida ASHRAE Chapter and has always encouraged employees to participate on all levels.

COMPANY HISTORY:

Commercial Air Management is a manufacturer's representative located in Fort Myers, Florida.  They provide variable frequency drives, fans, air distribution, dampers, duct heaters, fan coil units and numerous other essential products for commercial HVAC projects.  The company was founded in 1993 by Jon Ellis who had moved to Southwest Florida from Nebraska to enjoy the Florida weather.  Jon had been actively involved in the ASHRAE chapter in Nebraska and quickly became an integral part of the SWF Florida chapter upon his arrival.

Shortly after starting the business, Jon Ellis hired Paul Boudreaux P.E., a mechanical engineering graduate from Penn State, to assist in developing and marketing product lines.  A few years later Crosby Boudreaux was added to the staff to further expand the company.  Jon owned and operated the business until 2004 when he was succeeded by Paul Boudreaux and his brother Crosby.  Paul and Crosby have continued to expand the business and successfully increased sales and profits.  Under their leadership, Commercial Air Management has more than doubled their sales.  Over the last fifteen years, Commercial Air Management has been a leader in supporting our local HVAC industry and ASHRAE.

COMPANY HISTORY:

Tom Barrow started his company by renting a desk in a large room that had one receptionist who answered the phones for several different companies. His first sale's profit was $1.10. He took the $.10 and bought a cigar and kept the $1.00 in an envelope in his desk. This same one dollar bill was taken from his desk drawer, framed and presented to him at the company's 50th Anniversary. 

Tom Barrow remained President until 1998 when his son, Tommy Barrow succeeded him. During that time he saw the following branches open: Jacksonville, FL. in 1965, Albany, GA. in 1973, Orlando, FL. in 1981, Tampa, FL. in 1983, Nashville, TN. in 1987, Memphis, TN. in 1989, Savannah, GA. in 1995 and the Ft. Myers office was opened in 1996.  The most recent branch opening happened just a couple of months ago with our new Pensacola office.

In 1997 the Tom Barrow Co. expanded the product line to include custom applied equipment. This has allowed the company to be a full service provider to the mechanical contractors. The company now can supply everything from the air handler down to the diffuser.

The Tom Barrow Co. has been a very strong supporter of ASHRAE on many different levels. The corporate office donates each year at the national level on behalf of all of its offices. Each branch office also has officers and members as well as contributions to the different fund raisers that are held by the local ASHRAE chapters.

The Ft. Myers office holds a golf tournament each year where all of the proceeds from mulligans and the raffle are donated to ASHRAE Research.  In addition, Sam Moreland P.E., outside sales engineer for Tom Barrow's Fort Myers office, is currently serving as President - Elect for the Southwest Florida ASHRAE chapter.
